La semiótica, aunque se ha aplicado al análisis de la música clásica, apenas se ha utilizado sobre el jazz. Se plantea aquí el análisis narrativo de una música no programática, el jazz modal. Se acude a las teorías semióticas para estudiar los procesos narrativos en las improvisaciones. Se aporta una metodología de trabajo orientada a medir la narratividad en las improvisaciones realizadas dentro del ámbito del Jazz modal y definir las estrategias y perfiles narrativos y discursivos de los diferentes improvisadores.
